Virginia Beach, VA – June 7th, 2019

Today, Missy Cotter Smasal received the endorsement of KML Carpenters Union. This is the first labor endorsement for the campaign. Missy values the work of unions and is proud that her father was a member of a teacher’s union and that her grandfather and uncle who were both members of the Teamsters. Missy had this to say about the endorsement:

“I am proud to announce our endorsement from the Carpenters Union.” Missy Cotter Smasal said, “Strong unions build strong communities, and if I am elected, I will stand with their members, who promote fairness, safety, and quality standards in our Commonwealth”

Ian Heinz, the political director for the Carpenters Union, had this to say about the endorsement for the campaign:

Raised in a Union Household, Missy has never forgotten her roots in the community of Organized Labor.” said Ian Heinz, “Missy will be a strong voice for the working families of Virginia Beach, fighting to eradicate construction industry tax fraud, promote climate change mitigation infrastructure, and to protect and elevate area wages and standards.”
